Description This case study describes the care of a patient experiencing decompensated heart failure. It provides an interactive approach to learning how to perform patient assessments, identify nursing problems, and choose appropriate nursing interventions and communication strategies that will assist the patient and family toward reducing the trajectory of illness. Nurse competencies and patient characteristics are identified to optimize patient outcomes in real-life settings.
